Those who have been members for a while know our last meeting of the season is a social event with no work related presentation associated with it.

You can bring your spouse, significant other or a guest at no extra cost.

In past years we have done things such as spirits, wine and beer tastings, laser tag, and escape rooms. During the pandemic, we had a chef on Zoom teach us how to prepare a professional meal in our homes.

This year we have chosen live harness horse racing in Elora at Grand River Raceway.

Horse racing runs on certain days of the week, so we have picked Wednesday June 12th. Note, this is not a Thursday night.

The driving distance from Golf’s steak house to the raceway is about 20 minutes, so not too far away from where we are now.

This is a VIP horse racing experience for our group:

• We have a reserved patio area on the racetrack for our group only.
• Access to a bar.
• No charge for race day programs.
• Tutorial of how to read the racing programs and how to bet on the races.
• The raceway will name a horse after our group which we can all cheer on to win.
• Up to 15 of us can have our group photo taken on the racetrack with this horse at the Winner’s Circle after the race.
• Around 8:00 pm those interested can go on a tour of the horse barn to see where the horses prepare for their races; escorted by a private guide for our group.
• Meal choices are a la carte with vegetarian and gluten-free options to choose from.  Includes Assorted soft drinks, Coffee and Tea.  Full bar available at extra cost.

Don’t worry if you don’t know anything about harness horse racing, there will be support at the track to help you learn so you can make bets if you wish.

All betting is done with cash (no credit or debit cards) so come prepared. There is an ATM on-site but it charges fees. The bar does accept cash, debit and credit cards.

Grand River Raceway is also a gaming destination with a 24-hour casino that includes over 500 slot machines plus electronic table favourites like Roulette, Baccarat, Sic bo, and Blackjack.

So come early or stay late!

You get a behind the scenes tour of the paddock where horses prepare for their races. A guide will walk you around that paddock and share information about the horse racing experience from both the perspective of the horses and the caretakers.
